As the Waters Cover the Sea - by Allan Yoder

Sometimes we talk about the glory of the Lord covering the earth as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 3:14). We express a desire to see God’s glory poured out all around us. We even pray fervently for the Holy Spirit to come and have his way . . .

But what will it look like? What are we really praying for?

We expect that it may resemble revival. Azusa Street. The Great Awakening. The Jesus movement. Toronto. East Africa Revival. Wales. Blessing our region. Exported to pockets around the country or the world.

But what would it be like if it covered the whole earth?

We have a picture of what to expect when God’s glory covers the whole earth – COVID-19!
I know, I know. We don’t like how COVID has disrupted our way of living. We wish things would get back to normal. It’s constantly on the news. Everybody talks about it and has an opinion that leads to a lot of controversy – even in the church. It seems to be the same everywhere on earth. There doesn’t seem to be a way to control it. No law will stop it. No border can hold it back. And when there is news about how it is changing in another part of the world, it has repercussions where we live.

EXACTLY!
COVID-19 is but a dim counterfeit of the impact of the glory of the Lord covering the whole earth . . .
