Ordination and Bible School in Hagerstown – Newsletter – December 2011

Linker and Luz Sanchez were ordained and ten students graduated from a year of study during an evening celebration in Hagerstown, MD on August 20.

Linker and Luz have established churches in Gaithersburg and Hagerstown during their three years of ministry as church planters. Their two children, Anahi and Lin, minister with them as well. Anahi leads the children’s ministries and Lin leads the worship teams.

The church-planting efforts in Gaithersburg and Hagerstown are a partnership between the Hopewell Network and Monte Maria (a church-planting network in Mexico). Linker and Luz were sent by Monte Maria as missionaries to serve with the Hopewell Network in establishing new churches in Hispanic communities.

Linker and Luz have developed a Bible Training Institute which completed its first year. Ten students completed the requirements for graduation from the first level and received certificates. The students serve in various leadership roles in the Gaithersburg and Hagerstown churches. Each month, pastors and leaders from other related churches join in teaching classes in the Bible institute.

New Steps in Thailand – Newsletter – December 2011

An exploratory team comprised of 11 people traveled to Thailand from August 5-14 to discern next steps for involvement in the Hopewell Asia Mission efforts. Seeing the multitudes of Isaan young people in the city of Ubon, and hearing the accounts of indigenous believers and onsite missionaries from other agencies gave the team members a glimpse of Isaan culture and a deeper grasp of Hopewell’s mission vision.

Two couples returned from the exploratory trip with a sense of confirmation of God’s call to Thailand, and are taking additional steps of discernment and preparation toward appointment on the long-term mission team. Others are still praying and seeking further clarity and direction regarding their potential involvement in Thailand.

Provided that God continues to open doors for those preparing for a long-term assignment, our hope and prayer is that the first long-term team members will begin language study in Thailand within the coming year.

Stay tuned in the coming months for updates about how you can be involved through prayer and by helping to send the long-term team to Thailand. For more information, contact Dwane at missions@hopewellnetwork.org or   717-354-5394.
