Wise Words to Live By - by Pastor Lester Zimmerman

I have always enjoyed reading the book of Proverbs and collecting wise sayings from various people. These nuggets of truth help to keep me focused on the important things. Here are some wise words to live by.

"Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance— for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:5-7

  • Be kind with your words. They have the power to change people’s lives. Speak life.
  • People can only control you if you let them. Don’t let them.
  • Every road needs guardrails, and every person needs boundaries. Embrace them.
  • Happiness is not dependent on your circumstances or people. Choose to be happy.
  • Don’t compare yourselves to others. Embrace your uniqueness.
  • Faith is also spelled RISK. Try something new.
  • Don’t take the people close to you for granted. Be grateful.
  • Do something totally unplanned this week. Be spontaneous.
  • Do a random act of kindness. Be generous.
  • Focus on excellence, not perfection. Relax and stop sweating the small stuff.
  • We all fail at times. Be resilient and get over it.
  • Go on a negativity fast. Only think and speak positively and watch your attitude change.
  • Anyone who stops learning is old, regardless of age. Read a good book or subscribe to a podcast to keep your mind young.
  • Laugh a lot – Life is too short.

These sound so simple, yet they have the power to change your life, relationships, and spiritual walk. You can use them as a checklist this week and see what happens.
